RIP Michael Jackson
June 26th, 2009
Man, I can’t believe he is actually gone. In a way I feel like it is a good thing. These times have been really hard on the world lately, and at the least this gives a lot of people the opportunity to celebrate the unbelievable music he gave us. I was born in 1979, and I remember all those monster hits he gave us in the 80’s, not to mention the stuff that came before that when he was just a kid. All my current musical interests have roots in different subsections of the musical landscape; New Wave, Hip Hop, Classic Rock, R&B, but a big part of that came from Michael Jackson. I remember growing up and trying to teach myself how to dance, all I wanted to do was Break Dance and figure out how to move like MJ. I was talking to my wife about his death last night and more about his music. She grew up totally punk, and has a mild hatred for all things pop. She refers to most things with a danceable harmony as “Gay”(her word for cheesy). The way I put it to her was this, “I don’t care what you thought of Michael Jackson’s music, you could have called it gay and cheesy, but I guarantee if it came on the radio and you were dissin it, your feet were tapping, and a little part of you wanted to get up and dance, and thats just the FACTS!” Anyways, here are some of my fave Michael Jackson moments!

If Thriller had come out this week you would have to go to some special store to buy those jackets.. but I remember seeing the “beat it” jackets in the Jamesway we shopped at in NY (they came in Orange but also black, just like the Thriller gear came in a reversed red on black scheme sometimes).
